The Scheme
Is set up in consultation
with the Department for Transport, is the standard
for the industry and the only scheme to receive official
Government recognition.
Consumers
should look out for the above logo which is only available
to LPGA Approved Installers. A check against misrepresentation
can be verified by checking the list of LPGA
Approved Installers or by contacting the Association
direct.
This approval system is a voluntary one, and its existence
has been promoted to transport operators, local authorities,
Government departments and the general public, etc.,
in order that consumers can choose on an informed
basis a competent conversion company. There are many
manufacturers of conversion equipment and a conversion
company will usually specialise in one or more makes
of equipment on which their technicians have received
specific training. On completion of the conversion,
the company will provide the customer with the LPGA
LPG Conversion Certificate signed by the "approved"
technician to verify that the standards of the Association
have been fully complied with and specifying the make
of equipment fitted.
HOW
DOES A COMPANY OBTAIN APPROVAL
Approval is obtained by a company in conjunction
with a named technician(s) who is responsible for
the quality of the conversion.
The
technician will have had training in the installation
of LP gas conversion equipment by the manufacturer,
or their agent, whose equipment is being installed.
He has also demonstrated a thorough understanding
of the LPGA Code of Practice No.11, a clear understanding
of the appropriate sections of The Road Vehicles (Construction
and Use) Regulations 1986 (as amended) and passed
the LPGA written "examination".
Following
this, there is an inspection of one vehicle converted
by each technician confirming that the work has been
undertaken with the required skill and competence
and that the applicant is able to demonstrate sufficient
practical experience to handle conversion work on
other types of vehicles.
At
the same time the company has to comply with specific
requirements for premises and management procedures.
Only
when all the above are satisfactory will the company
be able to claim LPGA Approved Installer Scheme status,
be able to use the special Logo shown above and issue
the LPGA “LPG Conversion Certificates”.
Approval
is given for a period of five years subject to standards
being maintained and continuing compliance with the
terms of the Scheme following which a further full
inspection is required.
WHAT
DOES THE CUSTOMER RECEIVE?
Only LPGA Approved Installers are authorised
to issue LPG Conversion Certificates which are provided
by the Association.
These
A5 size MOT style Certificates are only issued by
the Association to LPGA Approved Installers and have
a number of unique features:

A conversion of a vehicle to run on LPG is a modification
and as such must be advised to your insurance company.

an LPGA Installer and will not charge an additional
premium. Click here for

QUALITY
ASSURANCE PROGRAMME
The Association operates a system of random inspections
of vehicles converted by LPGA Approved Installers.
The Association will select a vehicle to be inspected
and arrange for the installer to obtain the agreement
of the customer for the Association to arrange direct
with the customer for the inspection at the customer’s
convenience. There is no cost to the customer and
the inspections are undertaken at the customers chosen
location.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
All participants in the Scheme agree to provide customers
with a detailed Drivers Operation Manual and provide
back up service. In the event of any dissatisfaction,
the LPGA operate a complaints procedure. The objective
is to reach a satisfactory resolution to the problem
which if not achieved will lead to the company's participation
in the Scheme being reviewed and usually withdrawn.
